Smithsonian National Zoo, Chapter 8

Here, I have to confess; I have never before gone further down into the base of the zoo, because I thought it was only a farm-like petting zoo with domesticated sorts of animals.  And even today I just skirted the edge of it.  Another major construction project closed off about half of it.

It was enough to see the Ossabaw Island Hogs, Sus scrofa scrofa ossabaw island, and Alpaca, Lama pacos, and a Holstein and an Angus cow.  The buildings were impressive but only marginally accessible due to the construction project.  So I saw what I saw and then turned my attention to the signs pointing out something called Amazonia.
