NPR's Saturday Evening show has held a contest for short story writers called "3 Minute Fiction". Submissions of 600 words or less vetted by students in the Iowa Writer's Workshop program and ultimately awarded by a guest judge. The fourth iteration of this exercise will be judged by Ann Patchett. She's one of my favorite authors. For this round she's mandated that the story include 4 words in any grammatical form: Trick, Fly, Plant, and Button. I want to do this. I am so not a writer and honestly barely even a reader, but I do love words. Even just to have Ann Patchett read something that I'd written would be such a gift.
