Badminton was invented in England in the 1600's and has long been associated with the country gentry. It made its way throughout the world on the waves of the British Empire, but didn't get into the Olympics until 1992 Barcelona. In previous Olympics, the power base of the sport has been more widely distributed, but 2012 London belonged to China.
