The Freer Gallery of Art

The greatest little gem on The Mall is the Freer Gallery of Art. It's in a quiet corner, easily missed, and that's a shame.

The museum holds a beautiful courtyard in its middle. It was open this past week when I visited.

The holdings of the museum focus on the art of Asia. Here is a collection of images taken from my visit. The first two are of Korean pottery from the 14th century.

Art of Islam--ceramic tile and ornate decorated glass bowls.

Monumental wood sculpture of a Japanese deity.

Hindu sculptures from India.

Ancient Egyptian bas-relief---LOVE the croc.

Chinese fan painting--a winter scene.

Any trip to DC needs to include a visit to this sanctuary of Asian art.
