NGA Face Lift? -- or Fall!
Speaking of the National Gallery of Art, the poor I. M. Pei east building has a problem. It seems the huge slabs of marble covering its exterior are susceptible to falling off!--no, this is not part of an episode of "Life After People" on the History Channel. And according to the NGA, it's a repair job that will be possible thanks to stimulus money from the Federal government. So how does one enter the building in the meantime? Through these reinforced plywood tunnels, of course. Having been inside one, I'm not entirely certain that they would prevent a ton slab of marble plummeting at an on point angle from denting my brain, but then again, not having them there wouldn't have stopped me from entering the museum, either!
