Friendship

This past Thursday, I arrived home to such a wonderful gift. My friend, poet, and creative man extraordinaire sent me a copy of his new book signed. What joy!

I highly recommend it to all. A taste to wet your appetite.

Bliss is never the end of the
journey, but a happy bowl of
soup along the way.

Amazing Friends

A dear friend sent me a pair of postcards that her Uncle had brought home from World War II.  He was a soldier and closeted gay man.  They are amazingly beautiful and I have framed them both and will cherish them as long as I'm around!
They are frames so you can remove them from the wall and read the messages on the back.

The Gay Agenda!

My "Gay Agenda" T-shirt, and "Gay Agenda" Hoodie arrived yesterday!  I wore the T-shirt today on my romp at the National Arboretum with Romeo.  It was a good crowd for it, Liberal Straight couples with strollers and toddler and kids, Dog loving Lesbians, and health conscious Gay Men in pairs and singles.  I won't someone to notice, but alas...  The war's over with this crowd.

Pride

On a day when such horrific news comes to us from Orlando, I am resilient in my PRIDE.  I am a proud member of a tribe whose persecution has only begun to be abated and addressed as a basic human right.  A right that allows me to pursue with the same freedoms from fear and harm the essential truths of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  That hate still remains in the hearts of many and that it is fueled by religious dogma and cultural xenophobia is not a surprise to me.  That I live in a nation that refuses to regulate in any meaningful way the purchase of hand guns and weapons of mass destruction does.  I personally don't believe in hell, but I think the murderous perpetrator of this act of terrorism did, so for his sake, may I be mistaken.

How Times Have Changed

Children, let me tell you a story. Some of my generational friends here will get this. I remember a time, not that long ago, when being gay was akin to being a pedophile or a serial killer. Any association was a promise of trouble. The choice was to go live in a big city ghetto or keep your closet door tightly closed. The idea that anyone would ever think that there was any advantage to being gay? Preposterous. And when the civil rights movement for equality began, the victories for any sort of recognition were few and generally sensationalized by the larger media conglomerates. When Coors tepidly advertised to the GLBT community--the out cry was oversized and ridiculous.

Even today we still see vestiges of this mindset in petty and pathetic little enterprises like the Million Moms group--(which I have on good authority is actually a single, lonely, overweight, disenfranchised white guy who wears wife beaters and sweatpants all day and runs the organization from a Dell computer in his basement in Mississippi from which he also orders Papa Johns Pizza every night...but I digress!)

It is with this mindset that I glanced at the latest issues of "OUT" and "The Advocate" magazines. And what did I find? Ads. Lots of Ads. No beer ads. But look who is advertising and no one gives a damn who matters anymore. That's progress you can see, but lets not rush to take it for granted, eh?
