Tarot Time: Reading 19 JUL 09

After reading a friend's Tarot card on Facebook, I pulled out my set and did a reading for myself last night. Now before I go on, I want to say this: Tarot cards are not magic. They do not channel mystical powers. There is NO supernatural or paranormal anything about Tarot cards. They simply act as catalyst to the human imagination. They provide perspectives on how to consider one's life and one's desires. No magic, just ideas.

But HEY! What a powerful outcome!! These cards are really all about creativity and possibilities.

Card one in the Stranger position is the Knight of Wands; the impish jokester, the insatiable sexual satyr who delights in the power to inspire and create. Card two in the Self position continues the theme of creativity. The 3 of Wands is another member of the Fire Arcana and begs one to contemplate the synergy of harmonizing the body, heart and consciousness. Card three is strength in the Friend position. It asks you consider the inner strength you possess and to trust it as you grow into the future. Card four is the second card from the Major Arcana and it's the Empress. In the Family position, it first asks you to contemplate your relationship with your mother, but more importantly how your mother's legacy channels through you to others. Card five in the World position is the 5 of Disks: the Worry card. It does not ordain worry, but rather counsels to be aware of the power of worrying to derail one's dreams, and to remember that the power exists within each of us to set aside worry through focussing on the simple contentment in our life.

In a phrase, the reading says to me: "Go for it!" Now, I just have to figure out what IT is!!!

Tarot Time: Death

The cards teach us that death is only a transition. And while it manifests itself in ways that are violent to the heart, Birth is also violent.

After learning of Midge's transition to Ancestry, I got an email from my cousin Trish that her father and my uncle Carrol had died.

And then this afternoon, while napping, I was suddenly awakened with a chilling deathly sensation in my chest and images of Carrol and Midge in my thoughts. Who's to say what that was all about?

Something new is about to happen, something that will replace without challenge what was before.

Tarot Time: The Universe

Haven't played with my Tarot cards in months. Pulled them out tonight and plucked this one out of the deck. It's "The Universe".

It asks one to reflect on the power of possibility. All elements of life wait on the fringe for their possible roles. Infinity hovers above the head and a hollow center awaits fulfillment even as the eye of the soul gazes out from the inner universe. And open hands tenderly await the arrival of gifts from a higher source.

The card is a powerful catalyst to the potential for growth in a humble, seeking, open spirit exposed to a benevolent and omnipowerful universe.

Much I have to consider now....

A little bored tonight I reached for my Tarot Cards and cut the deck to discover this one. Isn't it beautiful?

The work of Stevee Postman, this deck is particularly impressive.

So the 4th card in the house of Disks -- What does it mean? It's a card of gratitude. It says, "Appreciate yourself for all you do to support others in your world. Recognize all the ways you contribute to the success of others through your strength and generosity."

Wow. That's a really good message for me this evening as I have just wrapped up a very potentially contentious meeting at school that actually turned out to be the most amicable sessionin determining this outcome in my tenure in participating in the process.

I know Tarot is used to predict the future; but this little chance encounter with the cards has only affirmed the past.

Tarot Playing!

I am playing with my Tarot Cards and enjoying reading about architypal images....even as I am skeptical about any occultic power that any card of any kind from any deck could ever possess. Power is in our minds, period.

So anyways....I've randomly picked "The Hermit" thrice in a week. Isn't it a great image? I love the tree. I love trees. And I am a major Meyers-Briggsian INFP. Sorta tied with the F to the T..., the rest is annoyingly accurate. So back to the Tarot. I am inclined toward Hermitude.

Further the moon, even in a sliver, speaks to me of the night. I find the darkness of the night comforting, too. Not in an obsessive way, but the darkness of night doesn't frighten me. And to anecdote this darkness the character holds a lamp. A lamp that's light doesn't change the night. It only illumines an imperfect sphere of it.

Light is one force. It counters another force. But it's no more omnipotent than darkness. And in the quiet of my hermitude, I work to find a balance.
