Sun rose around Huntington, West Virginia.  Was up well just west of Charleston.  I love West Virginia.

Spring Break Redux: Iowa

Iowa was FLAT! and mostly boring as hell.  The little train park in Ottumwa was a pleasant diversion.

After the Mississippi, things got interesting on the Zephyr as I had asked rather forcefully about our lateness against my connection to the Cardinal in Chicago.  I was shortly informed that I would need to prepare to disembark in Galesburg for a bus transfer to Indianapolis to catch the Cardinal there.  I have to give to Amtrak for being prepared for what must be a regular fuck up in their schedules given the distance between San Francisco and Chicago and the brief layover in Chicago to catch the Cardinal east.  However, IF you know this is not probable--why do you even offer it?

Spring Break Redux: Nebraska - Iowa Panorama

The magnificent Omaha Train Station wasn't actually a train station.  It had been purchased years before my a local TV media organization and refurbished to house there studios, offices and support facilities.  It was a brilliant movie to save an icon building in Omaha, even as it denied travelers the experience of passing through this amazing station.
