We are mortal beings. Our lives will end...you can't change that. And when we are gone, what is left besides our bones for future generations to ponder? Really not that much.
But we do get a final word, if we're lucky: and that word--in the form of a tomb stone--can be rather revealing.
I certainly hope mine will.
To that end, I discovered a wonderful epitaph via a facebook comment from a friend tonight. And here it is (be it declared and forevermore my desire to be planted beneath a marker that sums up my life thusly):
"ASTOUNDING LIFE! The architect, the music, the community, and the hospitality were magnificent and well worth the journey."
