We're #1! We're #1!
One could argue that the United States has a much larger population than these other countries, and that this accounts for the disparity. So I did some math. The rate of murders in the United States given this number is 1 per every 33,081 Americans. If we were to apply this rate to our friends here, their murder totals would shift into a higher more competitive range. For example: Canada's anemic 200 fatalities would become 1,053. Germany would benefit even more moving from 194 dead Germans to a more impressive 2,475. All the countries would see significant improvements: Spain from 60 to 1,396, England & Wales (one presumes that Scotland has its murderous act together to be excluded) from 39 to 1,834, Australia from 35 to 737, and even tiny Finland could see a better than 90% increase from 17 to 164. I don't think it's the fault of the people. I blame their liberal and progressive, even socialist leaning, governments that both restrict gun access and promote higher standards of social welfare with less income and class disparities. If they have any hope of ever competing with the United States on this one, they're gonna have to rethink the very essence of their ways of life. To paraphrase America's little darlin' Sarah Palin: they've got to adopt the "kill, baby, kill" can do attitude of us Yanks!
