I translated my list of banned books into my latest sheet of
"earth" postage stamps. The message reads: "READ: Don't Ban!
Honoring the writers & readers of banned books" Each title appears
twice on the sheet and run the range of denominations from 30 to 75 cents. The
titles also cover books banned over the past 200 years, books written for
adults, young adults and children. The authors are representatives for
thousands of others and include: Maya Angelou, Eve Bunting, Nadine Gordimer,
Khalid Hosseini, John Knowles, Louis Lowery, J. D. Salinger, Maurice Sendak,
Dr. Seuss, Mark Twain, Alice Walker, and Richard Wright among others. The
authors were born in China, France, Ireland, Pakistan, South Africa, Russia and
the United States. Book banning is a universally insidious crime against
humanity.
If you don't think a book should be read--DON'T READ IT! Otherwise,
mind your own business.
