Between the Western area of the Denver Zoo and the center is
an area with a lot of park space and habitats that weren't occupied, like the
Flamingoes. On the southern edge,
I came upon the Avian World facility that was originally opened in 1975. In spite of it's age, it really does
hold up well.
Outside is a modest colony of African Penguins, Spheniscus
demersus. A colony with some
member who were in some of the most extreme molting I've ever seen!Snowy-headed Robin Chat, Cossypha niveicapilla.
Hawk-headed Parrot, Deroptyus accipitrinus.
Ross's Turaco, Musophaga rossae.
A couple of Macaws in the throughs of grooming one another. A Scarlet Macaw, Ara macao, and a Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, Ara ararauna.
A Rhinoceros Hornbill, Buckeroos rhinoceros.
Inca Tern, Larosterna inca.
Egyptian Plover, Pluvianus aegyptius.
Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Halcyon malimbica.
