Saturday @ The Theater

Saturday went to Arena Stage's Kreeger Theater to see "Tappin' Thru Life."

Saw "Tappin' Thru Life" by and with Maurice Hines today down at Arena Stage in DC. I hardly know how to describe this show. It was so intimate, that though my friend and I sat in the midst of a sold out packed theater, we both said afterwards that it felt like he was performing just for us! It traces the highlights of his life with special attention to his mother, father and brother, Gregory; and then some of the people he met who touched his life along the way of his show biz career path: Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Talulah Bankhead, Pearl Bailey, Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horn, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland. With each story he told, a song, some dance. The whole show carried on the musical stylings of nine members of the Dr. Sherrie Maricle and the DIVA Jazz Orchestra--and they were HOT (musically). At one point two sets of brothers, the Manzani's and the Heimowitz' Each performed tap separately and together. It was 90 minutes of shear magic! He is one of the most charismatic, bon vivant, graceful and gracious people I have ever "met". Just outstanding!
 We had awesome seats.

The entire DIVA Jazz Orchestra.  Only 9 members were featured in this production.
