There are SO MANY perks to being an Elementary School
Teacher. One of the ones I enjoy most is the opportunity to peruse the library.
Today I happened upon "Coming Through The Blizzard" by Eileen
Spinelli with illustrations by Jenny Tylden-Wright. What a delight! The story
opens with the lines "One Christmas Eve not long ago it snowed. And
snowed. And snowed." and that pretty much is what it's all about! Not a
threat to Shakespeare. Yet, it's illustrations are absolutely enchanting. It
was published in 1999, and like so many books for children went through it's
run and done. To buy a new copy today, Amazon has a couple in the neighborhood
of $75. Ridiculous. Sad. But fear not. I offer you some of the images for your enjoyment
and appreciation.
And in spite of this abnormally warm December in the
nation's capital (Sunday may breech 70˚!), I am still dreaming of a white Christmas.
