Tonight's Holiday Children's book comes from one of the most
meticulous of Author/Illustrators, Jan Brett. A friend took her 5-year-old son
to a reading by the author two weeks ago and she revealed that it takes her on
average one year to complete one book. She is so careful to research every
aspect of her intricate illustrations so that no detail is random or made up.
Her books are a feast for eyes and the imagination. While she is best know at
the holidays for her books about the ginger bread man, I have chosen one
of her books that explores the world of Norwegian trolls! "Home For
Christmas" is a tale of young Rollo who becomes fed up with all the rules
of living in a family and sets off on an adventure of pure discovery.
Everywhere we goes he learns something from the animals he encounters, and then
by chance he happens upon his family as they are returning from securing their
holiday tree to return home just in time for Christmas.
