Visiting Mount Vernon, Virginia, part 2 of 5

From the Mansion, I walked past several out buildings, carriage houses, horse stables and a paddock with sheep. Further down the hill is the original tomb where Washington's body was stored for 30 years while a formal family tomb was constructed. And that was the next stop of the tour--after I determined that the stairs to the wharf were closed. The last couple of pics here are just of the fields on the opposite path back up the hill.

After his death, Washington's body was placed in this tomb for 30 in anticipation of a newer, more appropriate final resting place.

The final resting place of George Washington and many other members of his family.
