Summer Vacation Redux #9: Sioux Falls: Delbridge Museum of Natural History

The final stop is a really weird one.  Attached to the zoo is the Delbridge Museum of Natural History--which is really a display of an immense collection of taxidermied big game--and not so big game--animals most of which once belonged to a local entrepreneur named, Henry Brockhouse.  He owned the Sioux Falls Hardware and actually had many of the animals on display in the store!  After he died, the Delbridge family purchased the collection, added to it and then donated it to the city on the proviso that a museum be built to house and display it.  That it's at a zoo is a little surreal, and more than a few of the animals leave you feeling creeped out--like the gorilla, which I would not photograph.  Still, it's also interesting.  The collection boasts some 1,000 + animals, and there are at least 100 on display.  Here are some few images from the collection.
