Stop #7 @ the Zoo of Maryland in Baltimore. The African Journey, part 3.
The primate area is okay. I don't like seeing primates behind bars. It's just me. As these things go, the Zoo of Maryland's set up is somewhere in the middle. All the primates are kept in social or family groups. Within the large primate house, you can also find African Porcupines and an enclosure full of Golden Panama frogs.
The latter is particularly poignant given the fact that in the past decade a fungal disease brought to the jungles of Central America from Africa has completely whipped out this species in the wild. Were it not for breeding programs like this one and others in places like Houston, these beautiful creatures would be extinct.
