One of the things the most visitors to zoos don't do, it's linger. You cannot appreciate animals unless you do. A great place to hangout and watch at the Zoo of Maryland is the African Aviary. Here are four of it's many inhabitants: African Spoonbill, the brown Hamerkop, Von der Decken's Hornbill, and the Blue-bellied Roller. I was especially taken by the Von der Decken's Hornbill as he would grab mealworms and fly to a nesting roost to feel his mate and their newly hatched brood. I was there for about 15 minutes before I even noticed the Rollers. Take me word for it...linger.
